Magic's Price Irony

Magic's Price Irony

The paradox of Stefan

Stefan and Vanyel are very close, and they are sexually attracted to each other. Vanyel realizes that Stefan is a poet who can sing and reduce the pain of the suffering; therefore, he recommends him to sing for King Randale, who is on the verge of death. Paradoxically, later Stefan makes a painful decision to agree with the Dark Master and leaves Vanyel behind.

The satire of Vanyel’s power

Vanyel is depicted as powerful because he has the magical power to oppress his enemies. Ironically, the Dark Master, with his troop gang, rape Vanyeland and brutally assaults him. Vanyel sees and feels every humiliation, but he cannot do anything at that point to defend himself from humiliation.

The irony of celibacy

Vanyel is introduced as a man who is dedicated to celibacy. The reader learns that Vanyel dedicated his life to celibacy after the death of his love some years back. Ironically, the appearance of Stefan in Vanyel's life changes his thinking. Vanyel gets sexually attracted to Stefan, who publically declares that he is homosexual.

The rebirth of Tylendel

Tylendel is Vanyel's late lover. Vanyel remembers Tylendel, a significant individual who shaped his life. Ironically, it is later revealed that Stefan is the rebirth of Tylendel in disguise. They look a bit different, but they behave the same and express love towards Vanyel similarly.
