Marriage tribulations

The separation symbolizes the trouble in the marriage between Jenifer and her husband of thirty years. Before separating from her husband, Jenifer had a secretive sexual affair with Dr. Felixson. After the separation, Jenifer’s husband remarries and moves on with his life. The narrator in Tiger discovers that her boyfriend’s mother is Jennifer and she is shocked to learn that she had an affair with Dr. Felixson. Therefore, this symbolism hits readers that marriage is not always blissful.

The symbolism of the statues

The statues symbolize Max's childhood memories. When Max visits the park, he sees statutes and immediately remembers an Italian man called Richard. Richard is the man that offered him a tiramisu when he was a young boy. While walking with his mother, Max remembers how Richard approached them and offered him a gift, which his mother was skeptical of for the first time. However, Richard later fell in love with Max's mother, and the memories are intriguing.
