The meaning of life
The author draws the satire of the meaning of life to contradict the views of Jasmine and Terrence Jumper. According to Jasmine and Jumper, life is meaningless because they live in pain. Jasmine suffers from sickle cell anemia, and Jumper is a foster child. However, life is not about enjoyment; it also entails suffering, making a human being complete.
The Satire of the Bully Group
The bully group comprises various characters whose primary objectives are to steal, terrorize and bully others. Ironically, all the members of the bully group come from families that have experienced cancer in one way or the other. Consequently, when they steal ice cream, they take it to Bit's mother, who has just completed her chemotherapy. The reader finds the actions of the bully group ironic because instead of stealing the ice cream for themselves, they do it to save the life of the mother of their gang leader.
The irony of relationships and friendships
The friendship between Jasmine and Jumper is entirely satirical. Based on many people's expectations, the friendship between a boy and a girl must be sexual. Ironically, the friendship between Jasmine and Jumper is not sexual, but an interactive friendship where they both share their life encounters and the meaning of life.
The irony of Bradford
Readers expect Bradford to ask for help from Pia on how to become a successful skateboarder. Ironically, Bradford resolves to bully Pia and destroy his skateboard completely.
