La Jetée Background

La Jetée Background

La Jetée is a science fiction story performed in a series of mostly still photos explained through a narrator. The featurette was made by Chris Marker and was first released in 1962, distributed by Argos Films. Even though the story only lasts for approximately 28 and a half minutes, the storyline has been stretched out and used as a base for several other movies.

La Jetée begins in the middle of the aftermath of the World War III. Neither the world, the society nor the civilization is at the center of the story even though it is set in a futuristic setting. Instead, Marker decided to focus on the single man and humanity itself in his story, strongly adding time-travel to thicken the plot.

There has been, and still are, many people that have analyzed and interpreted the story as they best see fit from their point of view. As the story itself follows a circle red-tread, it the ending wakes questions and pondering from the viewer. It is though provoking, as it may seem to be telling the viewers that they have no say in the past nor the future and sets a different advantage point of time travel itself and how it would later be viewed and expressed by main stream media.
