Knight of Cups Background

Knight of Cups is a philosophical drama, sometimes with mystical notes, about screenwriter Rick. Rick is a screenwriter who cannot understand the strange things that happen around him. After his brother's death, his relationship with his father became worse. And now, to somehow forget about the pain, he spends all his time at parties where he meets various women. But each such meeting brings the protagonist closer to finding his place in this world. He is confused in his life and at one moment realizes that it is going under another's scenario. Trying to remember who Rick wanted to be earlier, he begins to rethink many things and seek out his role in this world.

The film was released on the eighth of February in 2015 during the Berlin International Film Festival. With rather varied and mixed reviews, the film collected over $500 million with the budget of $118 million.

The director and script writer of the film is Terrence Malick. Director Terence Malik included in the movie a piece from the ballet "Per Gynt" to correlate Rick's image with that of Ibsen.

The film is divided into several episodes, each of which is dedicated to one of the Tarot cards. The Tarot knight of cups is responsible for the gift of clairvoyance and embodiment.
