Killing Floor by Lee Child is a first-person point of view debut novel detailing the story of Jack Reacher. Jack is an ex-military man whose job gets terminated due to anomalous peace in Georgia. The military intelligence along with his background compels him to travel anonymous across the country. While still pondering about the next move, Jack finds himself boarding a bus heading to Margrave. Jack has just alighted in Margrave because his brother informed him that a musician called Blind Blake was murdered in the town. Ironically, Blake's death occurred six decades earlier.
Unknown to Jack, his brother has also been killed in the town of Margrave. The simultaneous heinous killings happening six decades apart explore how brutality reigns in the small town. Jack travels incognito but is surprised when he is arrested almost immediately after getting into Margrave. To add insult to injury, he is accused of killing an unidentified man. When he gets to jail, he realizes that he is accused of killing his own brother. Jack laments the death of his brother but vows to retaliate.
The military intelligence has helped him acquire cutting-edge probing skills. Therefore, he does not take long to know the killers of his brother. Margrave is a small city operated and run by a criminal enterprise in cahoots with law enforcement. The corrupt deals cut in the city triggered the death of his brother. The hunter becomes hunted when Jack discovers the whole scenario surrounding his brother’s death. The novel successfully exhibits how a small town’s criminal enterprise is destroyed by a secretive individual.
