Mathew Cowart
Mathew Cowart is a dazzling crime investigative journalist whose prime role is to follow up on criminal cases and help those mistakenly jailed victims. Cowart is illustrious because he has helped many prisoners to be released. However, Cowart finds himself in a fix when he starts investigating a criminal case in which Ferguson is accused of murdering a young innocent girl. When Cowart receives a request from Ferguson, he takes up the case and publishes the revelations showing that Ferguson is innocent. According to the letter sent to Cowart, the real killer of the innocent girl is Shriver. However, Later, Cowart discovers that it was a false pretense by Ferguson.
Robert E. Ferguson
Ferguson knows that he killed the young, innocent girl in a road accident, but he believes there is insufficient evidence to continue to put him behind bars. Therefore, he writes a letter to Cowart requesting him to follow up on his case. According to Ferguson, he knows the girl's real killer to be the disreputable Sullivan, who is also in the same prison.
Blair Sullivan
Sullivan is serving a jail term for various killings attributed to him in the past. He is in the same prison as Ferguson. Therefore, Ferguson uses Sullivan's bad reputation to accuse him of killing Shriver.
Joanie Shriver
The character at the center of the Ferguson case is Joanie Shriver, a young girl who was viciously murdered. Her case is complex because of the blame game between Ferguson and Sullivan because the real killer is under investigation.
Tanny Brown and Bruce Wilcox
Brown and Wilcox are prison officers in charge when Ferguson is arrested and detained. Ferguson says these two officers are iniquitous because they subject him to misery whenever they interact.
