Jasmine Lesson Plan

-In Jasmine, the protagonist/narrator undergoes several dramatic transformations. She takes on different identities and different names throughout the novel. Because Mukherjee writes the novel using first-person point of view, and because, within the protagonist, there seems to be an enduring, all-encompassing self that does not necessarily fit wholly under any of the different names she goes by in the book, sometimes it sometimes makes more sense to use "the narrator" to refer to her, and it sometimes makes more sense to use whichever name she is known by to the people surrounding her.
