"Ivanhoe" is one of the best-known novels of Walter Scott. This novel not only brought glory to the writer, but is also very interesting to read, even after so many years from its writing. The author takes us to a time when the end of the exploits has come to an end, and the time of meanness has come to replace, but there still are people for whom honor is not just a word. And such is the main character of Ivanhoe.
Ivanhoe is a son of Cedric "Sachs" - a wealthy feudal lord, but his father refused him, because they did not agree on the political structure. Traveling like a pilgrim Ivanhoe dreams of returning home, because he misses his father, despite his refusal. And in his parents' home his beloved Rowena is waiting for Ivanhoe, who he did not see too much time. Lady Rowena is a pupil of Ivanhoe's father, although she is not Cedric's, but he raised her as his own daughter.
Returning home, Ivanhoe agrees to help the Jew Isaac. In those days the Jews were treated with contempt, they were not considered for people, therefore the act of the protagonist testifies that he is full of nobility and compassion, he is ready to help everyone who needs help. He helps Isaac to escape and does not ask anything for his help. Ivanhoe just wanted to help a person in trouble, and not get some benefit out of it. But later Isaac will answer Ivanhoe kindly for his help - it is thanks to Isaac that our hero will be able to participate in the knight tournament.
Ivanhoe values honesty and integrity in people, therefore he is sure that it is necessary to limit the power of feudal lords, otherwise the country faces a huge misfortune. Participating in the tournament Ivanhoe shows that he is not only a wonderful person, but also a good warrior. He won this tournament.
When the young knight was taken into prison, Lady Rowena did not abandon him to the mercy of fate. She was very fond of him and therefore cared about him. After Ivanhoe learned that the lady of his heart was facing a deadly danger, he did not hesitate for a moment, rushed to save her. He did not think about the consequences and the danger to himself, he was only concerned with the fact that he must, by all means save the beloved, even if he had to sacrifice his life.
