    Explain what Freud means when he says an "error of superimposition" and what he sees as an example of this.

    Freud mentions an "error in superimposition" when he is talking about equating gender and sex, particularly when it comes to generalizing about men being more "active" and women being more "passive." Though Freud's discussion of femininity has been thoroughly rejected by many later theorists, the ultimate purpose of his exploration of female sexual development is to describe how biology and sex do not always correspond to universal developments in female sexuality.
