Mourid Barghouti, the author of I Saw Ramallah, was born and raised in the Palestinian city of Ramallah. He is a Palestinian writer and poet. I Saw Ramallah is a book about himself and his travel in life. It was first published in the year 2000 in its original language, Arabic. It was later translated into English by Ahdaf Soueif and published in this version in 2005.
Baraghouti went to Cairo in Egypt to pursue higher education. In his time in Egypt, there happened an event that would change his life forever, The Six-Day War. After his education, he was eager to get back to Palestine but was refused at the border. He was forced to live abroad. After 30 years, he was finally allowed to return to his hometown, Ramallah.
