Overall, Horton is depicted as a kind and genuine character, who does his best to help those who are disadvantaged. Horton promises to help and protect the Whos, making him a great friend:
"Of course, Horton answered. 'Of course, I will stick, I'll stick by you small folks through thin and through thick!"
Even when faced with adversity from others over his protection of the Whos, Horton perseveres and does what is right, making him an admirable character for children readers.

What do the unfriendly jungle animals represent?
On his mission to help the Whos, Horton is met with hostility and challenges. This is mostly from other residents of the jungle, such as the Wickershams and the kangaroos, who both believe that Horton has gone mad. Despite all this, Horton persists with his mission, and later proves the existence of the Whos by telling them to make a lot of noise.
