Mayzie
Mayzie is a very lazy bird who complains constantly about how she spends all day sitting in her nest. She considers it to be her job to sit around and that she would prefer to fly about. She manipulates Horton into taking care of her nest while she goes flying around.
Horton
Horton is a very big-hearted elephant who goes out of his way to help other animals. He helps Mayzie after she pleads with him and agrees to look after her nest while she goes for short fly. He is taken advantage of as Mayzie does not return for months and eventually the nest hatches as half bird half elephant hybrids that become Horton’s family.
