Hope (Emily Brontë poem) Summary

The poem begins with a description of Hope as the speaker's "timid" friend. She finds Hope to be unreliable and standoffish. When the speaker is going through something difficult, Hope sings, but when she begins to listen, it stops. Finally, she goes on to say that in her worst moment, Hope left her entirely, never to return.
