Asylum
Asylum is a word that, in this context, means a safe place. "Asylum seekers" have already arrived in a new country seeking asylum, or safety and shelter, in countries other than their own, because their own countries have become unsafe and uninhabitable.
Border
The term "border" means the line between two countries. It is often a place where migrants have to cross to escape to a new country, and can be a dangerous space where legal protections become nonexistent for migrants.
Anthem
In this context, "anthem" refers to the traditional, patriotic song of one's nation.
Refugee
A refugee is someone who comes to a new nation because their home country is no longer safe. It is different from asylee because refugee connotes someone who is coming to a country, while asylee connotes someone who has already arrived and then is discovered to not be a legal citizen, but is not able to be sent home because their home is unsafe.
Truckload
This term refers to a large group of people, enough people to fill a truck.
Savage
This word is used to refer to people or things that are seen as uncivilized or wild. Originally coined to denigrate Native Americans by colonizers first arriving in the US, it grew to become a term with racist connotations that refers to people who do not conform to typically European standards of civility and morality.
Rubble
This word means fragments of stone and dirt, pieces of concrete, or the detritus of ruined buildings or objects, often after demolition or a bombing.
Barrel
"Barrel" refers to the front part of the gun, the part that is pointed towards things.
Wade
"Wade" means to walk or wander through water or another liquidy substance.
Beg
To beg is to implore, cry out, or plead, often for mercy or for one's life.
