Hollow City is a second book, a continuation of the Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children saga. It is an adventure fantasy novel that follows a group of peculiar children running away from wights-evil peculiars who are after their headmistress Miss Peregrine.
The main protagonist is Jacob Portman; a boy who just recently discovered that he had peculiar powers with the help of his grandfather who was killed by a hollow. Jacob is in love with Emma, a girl with hands that can produce fire, and she is the main reason he decided to leave his old life behind and join the peculiar children to help them.
Other peculiar children include Bronwyn-an unusually strong girl, Olive-a girl lighter than air, Millard-an invisible boy, Horace-a boy who has dreams about the future events, Claire-a girl with an extra mouth at the back of her head, Hugh-a boy with bees inside his belly, Fiona-a girl who can grow plants.
To save Miss Peregrine the peculiar group is looking for another ymbryne Miss Wren. On their way of searching for Miss Wren they meet other peculiars, travel from one loop to another and experience the land through different centuries. Jacob is learning more about his peculiar power; he can do more than just see the hollows.
There is a big plot twist at the end of the novel and Jacob also discovers an amazing side to his peculiar power. The novel is filled with authentic vintage pictures that were collected throughout the years; some were altered for the sake of the novel.
