Create Your Own Survival Guide

Collaborative Writing

Objective:

Students will work together to create their own survival guide, taking lessons from the novel and from their own lives.

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.6.1

Structure:

Separate students into partners or small groups. Together, they will brainstorm survival tips to include in a survival guide. They should keep track of all of them on a graphic organizer.

Groups will then narrow down their ideas to a set of 5-10 tips only. Once they narrow down the tips, students will write them in a collaborative document, whether by hand or using collaborative editing software such as Google...
