Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch Characters

Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch Character List

Adam Young

Adam Young is the Antichrist. After being born, he is switched with another baby and brought home with the wrong family. As a result, Aziraphale and Crowley do not know where to find him in order to prevent the apocalypse that their superiors in Heaven and Hell, respectively, desire.

Aziraphale

Aziraphale is an angel that owns a bookshop in London, in which he only sells books if he really has to. He is an expert in books pertaining to prophecy. Despite being an angel, he is not inherently benevolent, and if given permission or if irritated, he has the power to smite people. He works alongside the demon Crowley to prevent the apocalypse. Aziraphale is Crowley's closest confidant.

Crowley

Crowley is a demon that believes that Hell can learn a lot of things from humans — a belief that is unpopular among other demons. He has golden serpentine eyes, black hair, sharp cheekbones, always wears sunglasses, and dresses in all black. Crowley is extremely fond of his 1926 Bently, which he continues to drive even when it is on fire. Every CD he owns, if left in the Bently for more than two weeks, turns into a Best of Queen anthology. Crowley works with Aziraphale to prevent the apocalypse.

Beelzebub

Beelzebub presents himself at the climax of the novel to express his dislike towards how the apocalypse has unfolded thus far under Crowley's management.

War

War is one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse that presents itself as a red-haired woman in her mid 20s. Whereever she goes, fights, destruction, and chaos breaks out. Even the calmest, smallest towns are negatively affected by her presence, turning into warzones.

Famine

Another Horseman, Famine takes the form of a thin business man named Raven Sable. Sable is responsible for the creation of foods with no nutritional value, D-Plan dieting, and "nouvelle" (a dish consisting of a single string bean, a couple of peas, and a thin piece of chicken).

Agnes Nutter

Agnes Nutter is the author of the book The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, which is deemed the only truthful book of prophecy. Her book predicts the apocalypse that Good Omens recounts. Agnes is burned at the stake for witchcraft, and berates the townspeople that condemn her for being late. After she is burned alive, the town mysteriously explodes, killing all of the townspeople.

Anathema Device

Anathema Device is a descendent of Agnes Nutter. Anathema is very similar to Agnes, and upon the apocalypse, Anathema is unfazed because she knew it would happen.

Pollution

Pollution is one of the Four Horsepeople of the Apocalypse. He works alongside War, Famine, and Death, and is said to be a replacement for Pestilence, who had previously retired. Pollution appears in many scenes, and travels around the world creating waste and causing contamination such as nuclear plant meltdowns, oil spills, and a wide variety of items detrimental towards the environment such as “the petrol engine, and plastics, and the ring-pull can”. Later in the book, when Armageddon is approaching, Pollution is seen amongst his fellow Horsepeople in the Upper Tadfield Air Base, but is later defeated by the Them and reduced back to a non-corporeal form. Pollution is described as a male in around his twenties with pale skin, faded blond hair, and light gray eyes.

Ligur

Ligur is a Fallen Angel and Duke of Hell. He works for Hell alongside other demons such as Hastur and Crowley. He is introduced near the beginning of the book where he and Hastur deliver the infant Antichrist to Crowley, who then delivers it to the Satanic nuns. Ligur also appears alongside Hastur later in the book to threaten Crowley when they find out that he had mixed the children up and mislocated the real Antichrist. During this scene, Ligur has holy water poured over him by Crowley, which is considered the lowest thing for a demon to do to another. He is therefore killed or discorporated, and isn’t mentioned in the story after that. Ligur is described as dark and squat. He, like Hastur, also takes great joy in doing unpleasant things and is also considered to be an evil character.

Hastur

Hastur is a Fallen Angel and Duke of Hell. He works for Hell alongside other demons such as Ligur and Crowley. He is introduced near the beginning of the book to deliver the infant Antichrist to Crowley, who then delivers it to the Satanic nuns. Hastur also appears later in the book to threaten Crowley when he finds out that he had mixed the children up and mislocated the real Antichrist. He is described as lean and tall, and his attire consists of a grubby mackintosh. He is considered an evil character even to other demons, and he and Ligur are said to “take such a dark delight in unpleasantness you might even have mistaken them for human.”

Newton Pulsifer

Newton Pulsifer is a Witchfinder Private in the Witchfinder Army. He works for Sergeant Shadwell, the only other remaining member of the Witchfinder Army. He is predicted in Agnes Nutter's’ prophecies to appear at Anathema’s house after having a car accident, and thus Anathema and Newt meet and begin a possible romantic relationship. Newt is described as such: “if he went into a phone booth and changed, he might manage to come out looking like Clark Kent.” He is also described as tall, dark, but not handsome by Anathema. Newt is generally a very typically ‘dorky’ character and has many difficulties navigating technology, finding that it breaks upon his touch. Despite this, he has dreams of having a job in IT.
