Trench Warfare
Trench warfare symbolized guerrilla war tactics used in the ancient ages when there was no technology. Despite World War I being conducted when technology was evolving, most soldiers were not familiar with technology, resulting in using trenches as defense barriers when attacking the enemy. Unfortunately, many troops were killed during the war.
Machine guns
The use of machine guns in World War I symbolized advanced technology in weaponry. For instance, planes with bombs and tankers directed missiles to the intended purpose. The planes released bombs from above, targeting the rival troops and infrastructure on the ground. The tanks enabled soldiers to traverse places without roads to reach their targets.
No Man's Land
'No Man's Land' is used by the author to symbolize neutrality. During the French and Germans wars, the land between them was considered neutral, but the military leaders still sent their troops there to claim ownership. The outcome was brutal for both sides because each side fought mercilessly.
The outdated war techniques
The outdated war techniques are symbolized by the awkward decisions made by the military leaders when they sent their troops to a no 'Man's Land' to be killed mercilessly. Unlike the past wars, things had changed, including the modernizations of weapons. However, military leaders relied on outdated training and war tactics, which eventually pushed their troops to trench warfare.
