Objective:

Students will show their understanding of the text's historical and cultural context.

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.R.7

Structure:

In this activity, students will relate evidence of Romantic themes in the text to those same themes in visual art.

Ask students to explore the tenets of Romanticism as they relate to both literature and visual art.

Have students select a number of passages in volume 2 which they believe represent those Romantic ideals. Have students look at three aspects of the text and of the art they choose:

1. Content: What the author/artist chooses to deal with.
