Flights Irony

The satire of the mother of the invalid

Annushka is a satirical character in the novel. The reader learns that she leaves her home searching for medicine, but she makes up her mind never to return home again! Even after realizing that she is exhausting her cash every day, she is determined to continue to unknown destinations hoping that she will be healed through travelling.

The irony of travelling

Travelling is supposed to be purposeful and should only be undertaken at particular times due to various reasons. Ironically, the characters in the novel are using travel for the wrong reasons. For instance, the characters are determined to travel to distant destinations to find peace of mind. Such a mindset is wrong because travelling can only provide a short-term solution to an individual's problems.

The irony of anatomy

The discoveries in the field of anatomy by the author are sardonic. For instance, the experiments about human body parts and their significance after death remains a mystery for readers. The author provides an example of a man who examines his body parts, searching for his essence. However, the man is shocked to learn that he cannot gain insight because the number of particles making up his body outnumbers his ability to conclude.

The irony of Vershynin and his wife

Vershynin and his wife are satirical characters. The reader finds it ironic when these two parents leave their young child inside a car, and they vanish for three days. What did they think about the welfare of the abandoned baby? Vershynin and his wife return after three days, and nobody know where they have gone.
