The driving element of any film or script is the initial inability of the protagonist in overcoming opposing forces because they lack the expertise, awareness, or the right character tools. Subsequently, the protagonist achieves the ability by changing through interacting with his environment either by altering their perspective or enlisting assistance. In the film, Ferris Bueller’s Day’s Off the eponymous character is presented as the central character hence the protagonist however as the plot develops this assumption is challenged. A protagonist has to undergo a character arc in terms of his initial internal state and their final resolution. Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) is introduced as an assertive character from the start who aims to succeed in having a day off despite it being a school day. Although he faces challenges from his antagonistic forces such as principal Rooney, his sister, and ensuing events he does not undergo any character change throughout. He is confident, goal-oriented, and persistent which are traits he still harbors by the culmination of the film.
