Lotto
Lotto (Lancelot) Satterwhite is the protagonist of the story. He is an unmistakable narcissist. He had been pursuing his dream to become a successful actor for many years until he accepted the fact that he didn’t have enough talent. Lotto takes pride in the fact that he is the only one man for his wife. The truth about Mathilde and grief over his mother’s death kill him.
Mathilde Yoder
Mathilde Yoder is Lotto’s wife. She is a bread-winner in their family, and Lotto himself is clearly dependent on his wife. In spite of the fact that she loves her husband, she gets tired, for it is not an easy task to live with a narcissist. The woman has dark past that she wants to hide from Lotto and their friends. Mathilde doesn’t want to have children, because she believes that they are going to be monsters.
Antoinette
Antoinette is Lotto and Rachel’s mother. Her husband's death turns her into an obese woman full of fears and psychological complexes.
Gawain
Gawain is Lotto and Rachel’s father. This man used to be unlucky in love until he met Antoinette. Gawain is a gifted entrepreneur. His sudden death caused by an aneurism leaves his family heartbroken.
Aunt Sallie
Aunt Sallie is Lotto’s aunt. She is Gawain’s younger sister. Just like her brother, Sallie is the practical one. She devotes her life to the children and helpless Antoinette.

Denton Thrasher is a substitute teacher.

Samuel Harris is Lotto’s roommate, one of his best friends and a son of the shadiest senator in D.C.

Kristina is Lotto’s ex-lover. She hanged herself in a bathroom.

Susannah is Lotto’s college friend. She is an actress who has to hide her true sexuality in order not to lose her job.
Rachel
Rachel is Lotto’s younger sister. She is kind-hearted, sensitive, and definitely more practical than Lotto.
Elizabeth
Elizabeth is Rachel’s wife.
Leo Sen
Leo Sen is a composer. He and Lotto tried to collaborate in order to write an opera.
Chollie
Chollie is Lotto’s friend. They have been friends since childhood.
Gwennie
Gwennie is Chollie’s twin sister. Lotto used to be in love with her. They had had a one-night stand.
