Filippo is the dwarf from the story "The Dwarf". Filippo is an excellent story-teller and it could be said that hi story-telling influenced his tragic death.
Augustus
Augustus is the main character from the story "Augustus". His mother's unfortunate wish to make his life better only made it miserable and empty.
Mr. Binsswanger
Mr. Binsswanger is Augustus's godfather. He could be seen as a divine source of comfort as he doesn't age nor can be killed with poison Augustus intended to drink. He is there when Augustus is born and he is also there when Augustus turns old and comes home to die.
Han Fook
Han Fook is a poet from the story "The Poet". Han Fook sacrifices everything that is dear to him to pursue his passion.
Kubu
Kubu is a character from the story "The Forest Dweller". Kubu decides to rebel against the corrupted priest leading his community which makes him outcasted. Kubu decides to explore the world outside the forest and realizes how big the world outside of it really is.
Ziegler
Ziegler is the main character from "A Man by the Name of Ziegler". He steals an old pill from a museum and when he swallows the pill he can understand the animal language.
Martin Haberland
Martin Haberland is the main character from "The Beautiful Dream". Unfortunately, Martin dies very young, but before his death he dreams the most beautiful dream.
