Dixon-Brown’s Toughness Save Her 12th Grade
Dixon, as the director of CAPE, seems to be ambitious and competitive when she shares the realities of getting CAPE to survive. She mentions how she has to compete with people like Stuart Decker in order to get research grants and international recognition. Though initially seeming like a morally-upright character who takes her responsibilities and staff seriously, we soon lose this impression of Dixon and considers her to be an ambitious and tough woman who is motivated by practicality, self-preservation and self-interest.
Dixon-Brown’s toughness comes from her practicality. As she is practical, she is able to deal with the challenges she’s faced with. It saves her from the many threats she faces—the competitive world of Academia and later on, from Harry’s ex-wife Stephanie. The first instance we see of her practicality involves her work for CAPE. Dixon shares with Piper the realities of that is needed for CAPE to survive, she mentions how she has to compete with people like Stuart Decker in order to get research grants and international recognition.
