The English filmmaker, Alex Garland, has written and directed the movie Ex Machina, which is a science fiction film which talks about artificial intelligence and how humans are interested or even obsessed in creating something in their own image. This movie which is released on 2014 tackles themes such as the selfish ambition of Nathan, the man who created the robot named Ava and how his scientific interest in artificial intelligence is not admirable at all since his own creation led to his own destruction. Thus, the pursuit of scientific knowledge, in this case, the artificial intelligence, is dangerous and should be taken responsibly unlike how Nathan handled it. The movie also provides parallels from the bible namely the relationship between God and Eve, and the seven days of creation which are relevant in understanding the message of the movie.
In the movie, Nathan Batemen is a character with a God-like power and characteristic, yet he uses his intelligence mainly for his selfish ambition and personal interest.
