Maisie and Ben’s betrayal to Eleanor
Maisie and Ben, though younger siblings to Eleanor, have developed a shift in their loyalties, while Eleanor was away. Eleanor discovers that they are comfortable with proximity to Ritchie and have begun to call him dad. When they realize that Eleanor and Park are in a relationship, they begin to blackmail Eleanor for her makeup and comics. But, eventually, the two don’t defend her and, as Eleanor suspects, even may have told Ritchie about Park.
Mindy being stereotypical of Eleanor
Mindy, when she realizes that Park had been going out with Eleanor, is unsupportive of the two’s relationship as she considers Eleanor as beneath their station or someone whose dysfunctional family might bring trouble to her own. It is quite ironical that Mindy would think of Eleanor as weird just because she doesn’t have means to dress as Mindy like to think she should, even when her own childhood was improvised.
Tina helping Eleanor
Eleanor is constantly bullied by Tina, when she arrives at her new school. Apart from being called names, Tina and her friends stick sanitary pads to Eleanor’s locker and steal her clothes and flush them in toilet. But, when Eleanor gets in trouble with Ritchie, it’s Tina who helps her escape him by hiding her in Steve’s garage.
Ritchie being wary of Eleanor’s relationship
Ritchie strongly disproved of Eleanor’s going to her uncle for summer camp, as he said he feared of her getting pregnant. He also forbids her to befriend any boys as if he was worried about her. However, Eleanor discovers that Ritchie was the one who was writing abusive comments on her books, proving he sexually objectified her
Park’s dad being supportive of Eleanor’s elopement
Park is afraid that his parents would not like him going to escort Eleanor to a different city alone driving on the road. But, Park’s father surprises him by allowing it only if he would drive the truck.
