What are the possible consequences of match-fixing to the players?
Comiskey is a manipulative team manager and he involves some of his players in his outrageous deals with sponsors. When it is later discovered that these players took part in match-fixing, they are expelled and judged by the court of law. Therefore, match-fixing has dire consequences for players because it destroys their careers.

Why is treachery emerging as the main theme?
The people who are betrayed in this film are the fans and the innocent White Sox team players. After working very hard in the initial games, the White Sox team loses in the finals and this makes it miss the championship title. The team plays lazily in the final due to match-fixing to give the win to the opponent. The team manager and the eight players betray the fans and the other innocent players who worked tirelessly to steer the team to the finals.
