The speaker
The speaker is a devout person who regrets his past sin. He hopes to model his life on Christ and be lifted out of sin and pain.
God
God is the speaker's addressee throughout the poem. Though He is silent, we understand that God has punished humanity but also holds out the promise of resurrection.
