Dreams From My Father Themes

Racism

The problem that is raised by a boy that was born from a love of a black man and a white woman. Society was not ready for such a union and was making their lives miserable. Little Barack Obama was left without father at the age when he was two because of the skin color of his father. They were comparing him to a monkey, to a creature that is not worthy living in a civilized community. That was a collision of cultures that marked our modern life. And the running strain of innocence that imprinted Obama junior’s memory from the childhood. Racism is the main theme of the work.

Family

Autobiography, memoir, family history. Barack Obama’s family struggled for happiness. Family bonds give power and bring confidence. As an example we have family of Ann Dunham. Her family had a stable background and they were trusting each other. There were no hesitation from her family if she decided to marry a black man, so that was her choice and this choice was right for her. They knew that there would be no life for them in their town so they sent them to Hawaii for a better corner. But Ann's husband didn't bear the pressure and had gone. But family didn't let Ann fall down and till the day she got married again and created a new family, her father was supporting her.
