Double Suicide Summary

Double Suicide Summary

Masahiro Shinoda's Double Suicide is about a successful paper mill owner named Kirchiemon Nakamura that has a wife and children. Though he is known for his paper mill, he is most known for the strict social and moral codes of 18th-century Japan. When his wife is kidnapped, he must pay a very costly ransom in order to get her back.

When he finds out more about the ransom, he is shocked at the amount of money it is. Though he has money in his savings, he doesn't have nearly the amount for his wife's freedom.

Because Kirchiemon Nakamura can't pay the ransom, they both want to commit suicide they believe that they will finally be with each other forever. Kirchiemon Nakamura asks everyone if he can have any money. Many people donate but it won't even cover a fraction of the ransom. Kirchiemon Nakamura soon falls in love with a very wealthy woman.

The problem is he doesn't know that she is rich. When he finally finds out that she is rich, he begs her to pay the ransom. After many days of begging, the ransom is still not paid but there is still hope. Double Suicide focuses on pure and real love, and how it feels to get that taken away from you.
