Today's set of poems shows a deep religious devotional bent: this is not new for Donne, but it is new in its intensity. Have students consider Donne's depiction of God compared to others they may have encountered, including psalms and devotional texts. Also, have students revisit "Batter my heart" in light of these new poems.
