Why did Deckard confuse Polokov and Kadalyi? Why might this be significant?
You may notice quite a few incidents of identity confusion in the text. These incidents work to undermine the consistency of the narrative, and lend a feeling of disjointed unreality to the story. Students must always keep reconsidering the rules of the novel's universe, including characters' identities. Discuss why the author may have chosen to do this, and keep an eye out for further examples of identity confusion and/or doppelgangers!
