Siegfried
A blacksmith who has just completed his training and who decides to win the hand of Kriemhild in marriage. He slays a dragon and becomes one of the greatest warriors in all of the land. He is betrayed at the end of the story and loses his life.
Kriemhild
One of the most beautiful women in all of the land. She is sister to King Gunther and becomes Siegfried's wife after he exchanges his services to help the King win Brunhild as his bride.
Brunhild
A strong and capable woman of power who will only allow a man to have her hand in marriage is he defeats her in three feats of strength. If he loses, she will execute him. She is defeated by King Gunther with the help of Siegfried and when she learns of the King's deceit executes a plan to exact revenge upon everyone who participated against her.
King Gunther
King Gunther desires to marry Brunhild, but does not have the courage or strength to face her demands in order to have her hand in marriage. He makes a deal with Siegfried to give his sister in marriage to him if Siegfried helps him win Brunhild. He plots to then kill Siegfried when Brunhild lies to him about Siegfried taking her maidenhood, and is left alone at the end of the film.
Hagen von Tronje
Hagen is the King's advisor and top military officer. He does not like Siegfried and regards him as not a true nobleman. He uses Siegfried's invincibility to advance the King's power in the realm. He sets up Siegfried's murder at the end of the film.
