The Irony of Prestigious Title
David Irving is a well-regarded and well-respected historian and author. However, he denies that one of the most easily proven events in world history (the Holocaust) occurred. He can thus not possibly be a respected historian among people capable of critical thought.
The Irony of the Legal System
In Britain during Lipstadt's trial, those who are accused of libel must prove that what they said was not libelous. In the United States, the opposite is true. However, what is most ironic about the legal system is that those who accused someone of libel would sensibly be required to prove that would they said was libelous.
Fred Leuchter
The Leuchter Report, which famously laid out a case that the Holocaust did not occur, is used as a key piece of evidence in Irving's defense. However, the Leuchter Report has been time and time again proven false and not reliable.
Deborah Taking the Stand
Deborah knows a great deal about the Holocaust, yet she does not take the stand against David Irving to try and discredit him.
The Irony of Justice
David Irving brings the libel case against Deborah Lipstadt and company to fight what he perceives as damage to himself. Yet, in the end, he loses the case, loses his career, and eventually goes bankrupt (after being forced to pay over 3 million dollars of legal damage).
