Darling: New and Selected Poems is a collection of poems written by esteemed author Jackie Kay. There are a mix of brand-new poems (like "The Adoption Papers") and old poems that were never collected which are brought together in Darling. Each of the poems in Darling tell different stories, but have many of the same topics of discussion, including racism, humor, sexuality and relationships, gender and its role in the world, identity, and the role of culture in the world.
Much like the rest of her work, Darling: New and Selected Poems received incredibly positive reviews at its release. In a glowing review for the collection of poems, Fiona Sampson wrote her review in the Guardian that "She [Jackie Kay] has an immaculate ear for speech patterns, using accent and dialect, in particular, to lift and characterise" and that Kay's writing was exceptionally "authentic." Booklist also wrote that "Her [Jackie Kay's] grand, embracing spirit should be better known in the U.S."
