Milosz reports that the history of his stupidity would span many volumes. He describes the fact that some would go against their consciousness, just like a moth which even if it knew the outcome, still hovers towards a candle's flame. Other people tend to suppress anxious thoughts, ignoring their warnings. Pride and satisfaction are mentioned and Milosz suggests he was among them. They have their own desire. He wanted to be like others, and feared what was wild and indecent in himself. The history of his stupidity, he concludes, will not be written, because it is late and the truth is hard-work.
Encounter
The speaker describes riding in some fields that are frozen. He's in a wagon and a hare goes across in front. Either him or the person with him points to it with their hand. The speaker tells now that such events happened a long time ago, but that nowadays, neither the hare nor the man that pointed is alive. The speaker asks his love, where they went and where are heading . He wants to know out curiosity, not sadness.
Late Ripeness
When the speaker was eighty, he felt a door open inside himself, and his former lives left him. Lots of scenes came closer, ready to be described by his brush. He was not distanced from people, and grief and pity came to them. The speaker says that he repeated over again that they forgot they were all children of the King. He states that there is no separation to the two options, Yes and No, no difference between now, the past and the future.
They were very sad, and only used around a hundredth of the gift given to them for their long journey. Now, from the past, many items live within us, waiting to be fulfilled. The speaker always knew that they all were people living at the same time, whether known or not.
