In this book, Preston writes about the Ebola virus outbreak, detailing the devastating impact it had. In doing so, Preston was informed by extensive research and knowledge about infectious diseases. In 1994, Preston wrote a book called "The Hot Zone: The Terrifying True Story of the Origins of the Ebola virus," which was also about the Ebola outbreak.
Emile Ouamouno
Emile Ouamouno was a young child who was the first person who contracted the Ebola virus. After becoming infected himself, he passed it onto his family. Unfortunately, they all passed away from the virus.
Humarr Khan
Preston tells the story of Humarr Khan, a physician who helped to find a treatment for the virus in West Africa. He later became infected himself and was unsure if he would survive without treatment.
