    Thoreau's Reach: Research Your Own

    Individual Writing

    Objective:

    Students will research a contemporary activist and examine the ways in which Thoreau's "Civil Disobedience" might have informed their work.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.11-12.6; CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.11-12.2

    Structure:

    This is part two of a two-day activity. For today, students will take what they have learned about Thoreau's influence on 20th century activists and research someone in the 21st century who is currently instigating change in ways that seem informed by Thoreau's work.
