City of Bones is the first book in The Mortal Instruments series. The plot is set in modern times New York and focuses on the life on Clarissa Fray as she discovered that her life is not what she believed to be and that there is a hidden world inhabited by demons and downworlders. The novel written by Cassandra Clare was translated into multiple languages and adapted into a movie and a new T.V series on FreeForm. The book was considered by some as being predictable because of the theme used but many magazines considered it as being a compelling story.

Cassandra Clare is the pen name adopted by the writer and the name is based on a short story written by Jane Austen. Cassandra Clare started writing since she was in high school and her first published story was The Girl’s Guide to Defeating the Dark Lord. After writing for tabloids and various magazines, Cassandra Clare devoted herself to writing in 2006.

She started writing City of Bones in 2004 and the book was published in 2007.

The first book focuses on the life of Clary Fray, an apparent normal teenage girl from Brooklyn. She discovers that the world she lives in is not as simple as she thinks it is when she witnesses the murder of a demon at a club.

Her life is turned upside down when her mother is kidnapped and when she starts seeing strange creatures around her. The book focuses on her search for her true identity and also on her feelings towards Jace.

The book also contains numerous themes and it focuses on matters regarding discrimination based on race and sexual orientation.
