Students will reflect on the emotional significance of Adeline's first and only pet.

Structure:

Because of circumstances at home, Adeline was prevented from expressing her grief at the loss of PLT beyond the brief burial in the garden. However, this moment is an emotional climax in the novel. Have students combine evidence from the text (in the form of Adeline's own words and recollections) and their own impressions to create a memorial service for PLT.
