Children of Virtue and Vengeance Background

Children of Virtue and Vengeance Background

Children of Virtue and Vengeance (Legacy of Orisha) is a fictional young adult book written by Tomi Adeyemi and was first published in 2020 by Macmillan. The book is the second in the Legacy of Orisha series, following on from Children of Blood and Bone (2018).

The book follows on from where the previous book left off, with both Zelie and Amari managing to restore magic back into Orisha. However, this only brings more complication as they now have to unite the maji in order to join forces against a greater evil, in the form of Amari’s mother who is challenging her right to the throne.

This series has been highly praised for its use of West-African literature and themes, with The New York Times claiming the series “storms the boundaries of imagination. Yet it also confronts the conscience”. Children of Blood and Bone has also been optioned for film rights, with Rick Famuyiwa directing the film.
