Children of Time Background

Children of Time Background

Children of Time” by Adrian Tchaikovsky, is a novel that falls into the genre of science fiction. The very successful novel is an exploration of the religious themes, humanity and its imperfection set in, typical for the genre, space setting.

The novel itself follows the lives of two completely different species: intelligent and highly evolves spiders and the remnants of humanity on a last spaceship. It explores the differences between the two. Portia labiata, which is the name of the spider species, is progressively moving forward, while the last of the humans are slowly moving towards the intellectual decline.

The book explores other, more complex themes like gender issues, artificial intelligence and corruption comprised with witty and humorous writing. It was published in 2015 and won the Arthur C. Clarke Award for best science fiction.
