How does Emo feel about the United States Army? Why?

Emo feels like the United States Army is the best, and he enjoys being part of a group that is the best. Some students may say Emo is displaying patriotism, that he is proud to be an American and was proud to fight in the war. Other students may focus on this line, “Tayo could hear it in his voice when he talked about the killing—how Emo grew from each killing. Emo fed off each man he killed, and the higher the rank of the dead man, the higher it made Emo” (56).
