Set in London, England in 1965, Grame Macrae Burnet's bestselling novel Case Study tells the story of a young girl who believes her sister's psychotherapist, Collins Braithwaite, has coaxed her into suicide. To try and figure out what really happened to her sister, and to confirm her suspicions, the young girl decides to go undercover and become one of Braithwaite's patients. As the girl continues to go to sessions with the charming psychotherapist, she begins to lose herself, her sense of identity, and her ability to ultimately function in society.
Like each of Graeme Burnet's previous novels, Case Study received critical acclaim and was a tremendous financial success. It was longlisted for the incredibly important 2022 Booker Prize. Writing for The Guardian, Ramon Vargas echoed the praise offered by the Booker prize, writing that: "This is a novel that is entertaining and mindfully engrossing in equal measure."
