Too young
After Agnes requested a spiritual advisor, Tóti is the man asked to fulfill that role. Ironically however, he is considered by many as being too young for that role. Despite this, he is still pressured to accept it and he does his job despite being told that he can't do it.
Not religious
One of the women sentenced to death, Agnes, asked to be guided by a priest in her last days on Earth. This statement is ironic because it is implied that Agnes is not a religious person, since she does not believe in the afterlife, an idea promotes by various Christian religions.
I did not gave him anything
When Blöndal first came to Lauga and Steina, the one who welcomed him into the house was Steina. In comparison with her sister, Steina was not interested in who Blöndal was and thus she did not tried to impress him by serving him with food and beverages. When Lauga tried to make Blöndal feel more comfortable, not only did he not appreciate the effort but ironically, he also seemed to look down on Lauga for trying to be more serviceable.
Kindness
Agnes was treated badly during her incarceration period and when the family she stayed with saw her, they were appalled to see the way she was treated. When Agnes was bought into the home, the family was afraid of her, thinking that she will hurt them. Ironically, the people who were most afraid of Agnes began helping her after they saw the state in which she was and they were kind enough to help her dress, wash and feed herself.
Love him
On the first night at the farm, Agnes dreams about the man she killed and she remembers a pleasant memory of the two of them. When Agnes wakes up, she is overcome by grief as she thinks about the man who was dead. This is presented as being ironic especially considering the fact that Agnes killed the man she claimed to love.
