Braiding Sweetgrass Irony

Braiding Sweetgrass Irony

The irony of humans

Naturally, human beings are expected to get integrated into the natural world and conserve it. Ironically, human beings in the contemporary world have decided to dominate the natural world and rule it. The consequence is the destruction of natural forests for greed and carbon's emotion that negatively impacts flora and fauna.

The Native American’s Heritage

The indigenous culture among the Native Americans should be something worth celebrating in modern America. Satirically, the indigenous culture has been replaced with modernity that does not pay much attention to nature. Consequently, the modern people know nothing about the indigenous heritage that shaped the modern world they celebrate.

The irony of the university staff

When the narrator learns how to weave sweetgrass baskets and brings them to the university, the staff scornfully stares at her work. The irony is that even the learned people have decided not to integrate into the natural world because they want to dominate it.

The language of plants

The satire in this context is that some people believe that plants do not communicate simply because they do not speak. However, the reality remains that plants communicate with each and they also send signals to people. Therefore, people need to know that it is vital to conserve the environment to boost sustainability.
