Caroline B. Cooney wrote Both Sides of Time, which was first published during 1995, and later published during 2001 by Delacorte Books for Young Readers. This fictional novel tells the story of Annie Lockwood, a fifteen-year-old girl who is a love-struck time traveler. She manages to develop two love triangles during two different eras after traveling back one hundred years to 1895. Despite how alluring her time-traveling, romantic journey is, it leaves her with the difficult task of choosing between time and love.
This is the first book of Cooney's Time Travelers series, consisting of four books total. Mixed reviews exist about the depth of character development in this book. Some reviews say the characters are too shallow for the reviewer's taste in literature, while other reviews indicate infatuation with the characters. Cooney's literary focus tends to be on teenagers, and she has explored many schools to gain realistic inspiration for the characters of her stories.
