A facility where the oils were refined or purified.

Whippersnapper

A young and inexperienced person who is also overconfident.

Expansion

To become greater and larger in size.

Crude

The state of being natural and not yet processed or purified.

“rock oil”

What people first called crude oil.

Viable

Characterized as being successful or feasible.

Monarchies

Form of government where there is a king.

Petroleum

A substance that is extracted from rocks and is refined to produce oil.

Husbanded

To be frugal or to use something conservatively.

Capitalism

An economic system where the government does not interfere with the way businesses make profit.

Kerosene

Light fuel oil that is produced from petroleum.
