Zora believes there is no better place on earth other than her country. Consequently, Zora is optimistic that she will continue with her artwork despite the looming dangers of war.

Black Butterflies

The novel’s title Black Butterflies, is symbolic because it signifies death. Black butterflies are a rare species, but when they appear, they predict something bad that is about to happen. After the black butterflies appear, war erupts in Sarajevo City, and several innocent people are killed.

Saravejo city

The Sarajevo City symbolizes the effects of modern-day violence and political instability. In the novel Black Butterflies, Morris explores the devastating impact of war. When the war begins in Sarajevo, residents are cut off from essential services and commodities such as food, electricity and water. War also destroys the basic infrastructure, such as roads and airports.
